The Future Is Female: Manchester Panel Event

March 3

3 min read

On 25 February 2026, we hosted a powerful and inspiring panel and networking event in Manchester, bringing together voices from across the property sector to explore what it truly means to be a woman in the industry today.

The evening brought together a group of industry leaders to explore the vital role women continue to play in shaping the future of our communities through development, regeneration, and innovative leadership.

Hosted at Manchester Hall, the event provided a platform for open and insightful discussion around representation, inclusion, and the practical steps needed to ensure more women enter and thrive within the property industry. Conversations throughout the evening highlighted both the progress already being made across the sector and the opportunities that lie ahead to drive meaningful, long‑term change.

Panellists explored the importance of designing places with women in mind, improved lighting, better sight lines, accessible public transport and facilities, reminding the audience that inclusive design benefits everyone, not just women.

The conversation also turned to the workplace, where flexible working was described as a “game-changer” for helping women remain in the industry and progress into leadership roles. Attendees were encouraged to act as mentors, champion colleagues, and have the “awkward but essential” conversations around equitable pay.

Another powerful moment centred around the need for personal protective equipment designed for women, or at minimum available in appropriate sizes, highlighting how something as simple as better fitting PPE can significantly affect confidence, comfort, and safety on site.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the exceptional speakers who brought their expertise, energy, and lived experiences to the panel:

  • Cllr Arooj Shah, Leader of Oldham Council

  • Rachael Cunliffe, Founder & Director, Engage5

  • Michele Steel, Chief Executive, Regeneration Brainery

  • Ian Scott, Chief Executive Officer, Ocasa Homes

  • Krista Powell, Partner & Head of Manchester, Napthens

  • Georgina Lynch, Managing Director, PJ Livesey Group

A special thank‑you goes to Julia Hatmaker of Place North West, who expertly hosted the discussion and guided the evening’s narrative with clarity and depth.

We are also grateful to Place North West for organising such a thoughtful and impactful event, and to all attendees whose engagement and contributions helped make the evening a genuine success.
