We’re delighted to be supporting Joe Gill on his latest development in Potton, Bedfordshire, where he is delivering a scheme of eight high-quality, barn-style family homes. This project is a great example of what can be achieved when strong relationships, shared values and a long-term approach come together.
A relationship built over time
Our relationship with Joe goes back further than this development. We first met Joe when he was starting out in the industry, having previously worked with his father’s business, where Joe himself spent time on site as a teenager.
From those early conversations, it was clear that Joe had both the maturity and the ambition to succeed. Establishing that relationship early on has allowed us to support his growth as a developer and work together as a team as his projects have evolved.
A passion for quality
What stands out most about Joe’s approach is the care and attention he brings to every home he builds.
As Joe himself reflects, every property represents the top end of someone’s budget and, more importantly, it becomes their home. That philosophy is reflected across this development, where quality, detail and pride in the end product are clear to see.
Alongside this, the pace at which Joe and his team are delivering these homes is impressive. Maintaining such high standards while building at speed is no small achievement, and is a testament to his skill, drive and experience as a developer.
Supporting developers through challenging conditions
The past few years have presented significant challenges for SME housebuilders, from build cost inflation and planning delays to higher interest rates and a slower sales market.
In this environment, having a trusted funding partner is more important than ever. We work closely with our borrowers to understand these pressures and provide the support and flexibility needed to navigate them successfully.
For Joe, having a banking partner who is accessible, collaborative and open has been key - enabling honest conversations and helping to find solutions as projects progress.
Championing family businesses
Joe’s journey also reflects something that is incredibly important to us, championing family businesses.
Today, more than 30% of our loan book supports family-owned businesses. These businesses play a vital role in the UK’s property market, bringing long-term thinking, strong values and a deep sense of pride to what they do.
We’re proud to continue supporting businesses like Joe’s, helping the next generation of developers to grow, succeed and deliver much-needed homes.
